The second session of RP&S seminar this semester on coming Friday (9th Oct.) has been comfirmed already.

We are very pleased to have Sharon Ackerman to present his recent work (the poster and diagram have been attached).

The title of his presentation is “Explorations in Complexity Theory and the City – Where from here?”.

key words: Emergence, Urban design, self-organization, planning tools and process.

As Sharon said: “I will be introducing my background as a designer interested in complexity theory, and talking about how complexity theory from the sciences has been appropriated by different spatial practitioners in different ways. Recently Delft hosted a conference on complexity and the city, but there are still significant questions about how contemporary explorations in complexity can change the way we conduct design in practice. The conference left many unanswered questions about the best way to move forward in terms of practical applications. I will discuss how complexity theory may be taken in another direction of inquiry in order to bridge the gap between theory and practice.”
