The Dutch government has yesterday announced its interpretation of the EU regulations on the sanctions of Iran. Stating that these are still undefined, the parliament has decided to give and prolong, for the time being, no staying permits for work and research of any kind, carried out by Iranians in The Netherlands.
We would like to state here that students and researchers at our Department and Chair do not engage in any way in nuclear power, nor are we investigating the technological development, production or use of (petro-) chemicals or crude oil. We feel that our Iranian researchers have, according to EU regulations, the right to continue their work here.

This political decision is extremely unfair for our colleagues and many other PhD candidates. There is a petition going on to ask the government to reconsider.
